As calm as the Andalusian city of Cordoba can be, with little or nothing major going on, that would quickly capture your attention. There are particular things that when you encounter will stay with you. There's a charm that Cordoba has ,it's the kind of place in which you can live life in the moment because there's no rush, enjoying every moment as it comes. Which explains the pace of life is quite slow, I guess so is the case with most small cities. In the spirit of bringing the city to life the people of Cordoba love to take on different types of festivity.
These festivities seem to attract masses of people who on a daily basis, one would rarely see on the streets of Cordoba but on the very festive week all converge to celebrate. Spring time is when Cordoba comes to life with lots of festivals and to wrap up all the continuous celebrations is the annual Fun Fair "Feria de Mayo". Which I would say was so far my best and I guess so was the case with everyone else because the Fair was jam-packed from day one to day end.
What had me thrilled was neither the roller costar rides nor the cotton candy but it was the ladies in their Flamenco dresses. A display, that dresses are more than just a woman's piece of clothing but a statement of art and in its variant forms. That for me was one of the major reasons I kept going back to the fair just so I could feast my eyes on the flamboyant Flamenco dresses. The very many distinct range in design and not to mention the bounteous colors took my love for color to a whole new level. And it's in the midst of all that awe that I came to understand why the Fair was such a big deal.
Not only was it a climax for all the festivals but it was also a show casing arena where the Ladies showed off the work of art in form of dress. Remember ,this aspect of Spanish tradition is not your typical every day Spanish experience unlike the tapas that you can easily find everywhere. This made it even more special for me, seeing the Ladies gracefully show case this beautiful aspect of Spain kind of made me daydream about how I'd look in this lovely display of tradition.
So when the city goes back to it calm and serene state of being, don't be fooled to think that the excitement has too died out. If there's anything the charming city of Cordoba has taught me it's that there's always something to celebrate and it could be as simply as dressing up...
